Sometimes a user installs a program in his/her PC that they don’t want others to find. But it is an uphill task to hide a program on a computer as there are shortcuts, program files and entry in the Add/Remove Programs list that you have to take care of. Even if you find a way to hide your program in the shortcuts and program files section, you may still need to hide it in the Add/Remove Programs entry. So how you would do that? Read the following article to find out.
There are two ways by which you can hide an entry in the Add/Remove Programs section – By editing the DisplayName File or By creating a SystemComponent Value.
Editing the DisplayName File
Before you make any changes in the computer registry, Regedit make a backup of files. Click the Windows icon to launch the Startup menu. In the Search box, type regedit and press Enter. Go to this location, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows \CurrentVersion\Uninstall. Find the program that you want to hide from the entry. Now in the right pane, locate the value name DisplayName. Right-click on this value and select Rename. Now you can give any name to the program. Go to Add/Remove Programs section to check if you have successfully hidden the particular program.
Creating a SystemComponent Value
Before using this method, backup your files. Go to Search box and type regedit. Navigate to this location – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows \CurrentVersion\Uninstall. Now locate the program that you want to hide. In the open pane, right-click to open the new tab. From the new tab, you will get a drop-down menu. Choose DWORD value and the rename the value to SystemComponent. After renaming the value, double-click the SystemComponent value and set it as 1. Click Ok to save the changes. Now close the regedit and go to Add/Remove Programs to check if the particular program entry is hidden.
In this manner, you will be able to hide an entry in add/remove programs so that nobody can find your hidden program in the computer.
